Coffee Shop-What to have and where

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

For the past 3 years i have been visiting numerous coffee shops....Trying to visit one after the other....Some were bad and some were good....For me the place should have a good ambiance otherwise, however good the beverage may taste you really can't enjoy.....This is a list of places i have been.....and the best thing i liked to have in that place.....You can call them my favorites.....
The most frequently visited place is The Barista(Gn chetty road)...The sole reason is its next to my place....
These are the coffee shops in chennai, tamilnadu, india
1) The Barista
a) GN Chetty Road,T.nagar
b) Thirumallai Pillai road,T.nagar
c) Nungambakkam high road, opp espahani.(amongst all the barista....the way they make the beverage is diff and good)
d)Near Ethiraj College

The best things you can find in Barista is:

  • Hot chocolate-when the weather gets cold here.....that drink is the best.....
  • Water Melon Sparkle-a drink which has a pink watermelon concentration and then soda to it.....its quite thirst quenching during the summers....the drink as such has a nice pink transparent colour....
  • Apple Cake-If you are hungry and still don't want to spend much, you can go in for an apple cake.....its really nice.....you can add in caramel sauce or chocolate sauce.....just melts in your mouth...
  • Dark Temptation-If you are the type who does not mind spending and want a rich thing to eat....I should tell you,the dark temptation can beat any dessert in the world....It has a chocolate cake with hot chocolate sauce over it....next to it you can find a scoop of ice cream and a scoop of fresh cream....This is an Absolute mouth watering dish.......
2)Qwickys
opp satyam theatre

I visit this place only when i am early for a movie in satyam....not knowing where to go,i usually land up there.....its an ok place though really fond of it.....
  • Blue Carico-This is a drink which has loads of crushed ice in it.....so again quite nice to have when it gets hot....its good only if its diluted.....However its bad if its too concentrated... anyways its a time pass drink till the movie in satyam starts..
3)Cafe Coffee Day
Royapettah,near dav girls schools.

This is a nice place to visit....great ambiance....there is a sit out too....its a small place but its great....
  • Strawberry Ice Tea-I really don't like ice tea...I always find ice tea weird....I would always wonder how people can have this drink....With great hesitation i tried this drink out...Fell in love this is drink.....I like it because it doesn't taste like the usual ice tea....It has this sweet taste to it...really nice.....should try it....

Basically these are the coffee shops i have been too.......and the stuff i have tried in these places.....If anyone knows a better coffee place or a new drink or a food....let me know....It is fun to try something new....(please note:these drinks were good because they were made well...so if you try this drink out and isn't that great don't blame me...blame the guy who made the drink....or it isn't your day)

Trust Vote!!!!

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

First thanks to star of blogging, king of net, the one and onli incomparable Deepak my friend who invited me to write in his blog and m very happy to accept his invitation and write in his blog..... Also thanks to him for accepting my suggestion of writing anything thats worth reading.....

The ruling United Progressive Alliance government comfortably sailed through on Tuesday the trust vote moved by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in the Lok Sabha seeking confidence in his Government. The Congress-led alliance was able to muster 275 votes in its favour as against the 256 of the combined Opposition – the margin being way above the photo-finish that was being projected almost right till the end of the two-day long debate. There were 10 others – of the total 541 eligible to vote (minus the Speaker and a disqualified member) – who either abstained or absented themselves. Dr Singh’s Government now looks all set to complete its full term till the next general elections due in April. Whether this breather would bring economic reforms back on the agenda – as India Inc is hoping for – or induce a fresh round of pre-electoral populism remains to be seen.

Starbucks

Hi, so this isn't deepak if you're wondering...but his 14 yr old neice...i know i kinda weirded out as well when i found out...anyhoo(hes a great dude so dont worry about that)...i'm visiting from the US...so maybe i could blog about the coffee and stuff there? sure let me get started

so basically there are tons of coffee shops...i have a guess as to why..i mean the silicon valley(fyi i live in cali) so lots of people wake up early and drink coffee...the best coffee(i think..but i biased and i don't drink coffee...i drink fraps and wat not...but my mom drinks coffee and every other adult that i know of does too and loves this place) is STARBUCKS!!!!!!

it's the best coffee place because it serves a variety of coffees from coffee beans all over the world, it serves tea from different tea leaves, it serves variations of the coffee(latte, cappa, frap, ect), and it serves children drinks. every season, new drinks are added and the christmas specials are always a nice thing to drink while sitting down in their wonderfully ambient shop.

the baristas love to talk. they talk about everything from music to politics...they really give you a cheerful boost, plus if you want to have a special coffee made your way, they will do all they can to make the coffee to your taste.

the ambience of the shop is really nice. imagine, its a cold and windy day outside with no sign of the sun. you are wearing your warm fleece jacket, but your entire face in numb, so you walk into a local Starbucks. you ask for a cup of coffee(let's go with what my mom and dad like) mistro(meaning a coffee without the froth on top) 180(the coffee is heated that much and then its chilled a little so its a nice temp) and you get a double shot latte (double shot meaning extra decaf and so its stronger) so you pick up your two coffees and sit at the table by the window and you sit down and take a sip of the coffee(mistro) and smile as your entire face heats up as the hot drink flows through your system, defrosting any numbness. then you take a sip of the latte and sigh as your body wakes up at the sudden burst of caffine....bliss........................

ahhh a nice picture...why do i like fraps..if its hot or cold i would drink a frap. though a frap(a flavor blended with ice and coffee[sometimes not coffee] and topped with whipped cream and some caramel or choco or strawberry drizzling..its really good) may be cold...since the shop itself is warm and i usually get like a biscoti(a type of cookie suited for coffee) which is really warm...i don't mind the chill.

Starbucks doesn't just sell coffee...but it sells all sorts of pastries like cheesecake and brownies, scones, coffee cakes, cookies, chocolate, mints, fudges, and a variety of croissants and sandwhiches. with the variety of drinks(not only hot but cold) and the variety of foods to eat, it sure makes sense that this is the place to go if anything is needed. at any local gorcery store, they sell coffee powder...well they sell Starbucks coffee powder there too!

it is quite amazing how one small little coffee shop has so much to offer and is a chain all across the US and throughout the world...sadly with the fact that so many are opened in many places(just on a street near mine there are two!) many have to be closed down...it is a sad thing indeed..

with a multi-billion dollar corporation, there has to be some stock thing involved, so to improve the company and make some money while drinking your wonderful cup of Starbucks coffee, you can buy some stocks(i have and made some money out of it :D)

oh and also...Starbucks is not just an outside coffee shop. it is a drive through also and can be found in many of the wonderful bookstores and malls throughout the country...especially a bookstore called barnes and noble..which is another story for another time.

phew...that's a lot of information about Starbucks...i hope to post more soon about another coffee shop called coffee society which is near the library...good area huh? for bookworms like me ^^

a few clips of the coffees i mentioned

hope you loved that little tidbit of coffee in america

signing off in 3....2....1...

My Cup of Coffee ;-)

Well well when i hear the blog title "Coffee with Deepak" just one incident comes to my mind. Let me spell it out here... It was my 20th birrthday 25th june 2007... i invited a few of my friends for lunch at a nearby hotel.. It was a B'day treat..the treat went on well and after i reached home and checked the presents people gave me i was shocked..three out of the 5 presents were coffee cups.. phew.. and one of the which i use at present was gifted by Deepak.. and the Cup is displayed right left to you ;)

Well i also had a recent experience that had to do with a lot of caffeine.. It was during this b'day..man-o - man coffee plays a very important role in all my birthdays.. With a very few of my friends i went to have dinner @ ascendas and to my luck it was pouring down heavily and my throat was dominated by some flu virus.. and i wanted to gallop some hot stuffs so that it may act as an anodyne to my throat..and unfortunately none of the shops in the food court had any super hot stuffs that would do good to me..So finally i ordered a cup of tea from McDonald's ..weird rite... McDonald's and burgers is what u normally associate with.. then the hot filter coffee of a south indian restaurant caught my eyes and soon i was there sipping the smoking kapi... well as if this wasn't enough i wanted to end my day with another coffee ( people usually end the treat with desserts i guess)..anyways i walked in to qwicky's cafe and ordered an hot italian blah blah...all i knew was it was some hot coffee... and that too went inside me... so it was how i spent two previous b'days closely associated with coffee... I hope you would definitely not find any of the above useful ...but just wanna share my xperience tats it...and hey the pics are the ones that i took @ ascendas..i mean those cup of coffee............ :)

3rd day in blogging!!

You are in the right blog to know why coffee is that special drink which makes u feel you are on a date with your special him/her.

Alright lets get down to business,

You’ve recently met a person, decided that they are worth a little bit more of your time to get to know a little better, so what do you do? What is it you suggest for your first meeting (not a date yet!)
There can be no better way than a carefully planned coffee date.
Your coffee date should be for the mid-late afternoon, an hour or so after lunch, or early evening an hour or so before dinner time. The essentials being that the coffee date takes place in daylight hours and is set for 20 to 30 minutes, no longer. You appearance should be dressy casual, a nice shirt/sweater, maybe clean jeans (new-ish not tattered) or khaki pants. No 2 piece suits for the man, no dresses or skirts for the ladies, you want to be comfortable, remember, it’s just coffee, right?Prepare yourself for a long 20 minutes of chit chat and asking/answering questions. Preparation includes deciding what to ask and how you’d answer the same. Don’t worry about saying things like “Isn’t that a third date question?” instead of feeling that you need to answer everything. Try to keep the questions open ended and the other person talking. Surprisingly enough, people do like to talk about themselves more that hearing about others and you’ll easily come off a winner by letting the other person talk. Of course, this could backfire if they are “boorish” and have a self-importance personality that was not previously displayed, but at least you’ll know more about the person and it’s only 20 minutes out of your life rather than an entire evening (or heaven help us, a lifetime!)
Keep away from talking about religion, politics and environmental issues. Stick to a plan of current events, parental upbringing topics and growing up remembrances as safe topics of conversation. Be sure to read today’s newspaper to have some material to fall back on if there happens to be any silent periods or lulls in the steady flow of your conversation.Questions to get to know someone on a coffee date, such as these, are a great starting point for your conversation:
1. What would you say had the biggest influence on you when you were growing up?
2. Did both of your parents work?
3. Where did (do) you spend your summers?
4. Did you ever (do you) have pets?
5. Do you watch any TV shows regularly?
6. What’s the last movie you went out to see?
7. What type of music would I find in your CD player?
8. What’s the last book you read (or who is your favorite author)?
9. What would be your dream career?
10. What is the most modern piece of technology you own?

These open ended questions will allow for a variety of follow-up questions that will show themselves to you as your meeting continues. You will discover their personality, their worldliness and drive for possessions and travel. Any of these can be good or bad traits, depending on what you find desirable in a person. When your designated time to end the coffee date nears it is safe to either state that you really don’t have much in common, but thanks for having coffee with me, or to plan a next meeting/date in a couple of days.Your coffee date should have this type of definite end to it so there are no hard feelings and uncomfortable confrontations later.Under no circumstances should you go beyond the time you allowed for this date.Be sure that any family/friends you told about this date are notified when it ends and told how things worked out. Never go to a first date without telling someone and planning a “safe call” when it is over. Your “safe call” can be them calling you to make sure you are OK, or you calling them to say the date is over and you are going home or returning to work, whatever. This is extremely important.Meeting someone and getting to know them are two different and distinct stages of any relationship.
;)
Wishes,
DpK.
